Why cross-drafts matter
The collector works best when the filing activity stays directly over the intake. Air from a nearby fan, air conditioner, window or humidifier can move lighter particles sideways across the table.
A shield does not make the workspace airtight. Its purpose is to help shelter the immediate filing zone and guide the working position back toward the filter.
Self-use and client access
For self-manicures, both hands can work through the larger front opening. For client routines, the client’s hand can enter through the smaller rear opening while the technician works from the front.
Keep the active nail over the intake and adjust the chair or table before filing. A natural wrist angle is more useful than forcing the hand deep inside the shield.
When an open setup may be better
Remove the shield when the room has little cross-draft, when a particular technique needs wider side access or when cleaning the collector. Follow the supplied care instructions and keep the unit disconnected while handling the filter.
Continue normal ventilation and safe work practices. A nail dust collector is a practical source-control tool, not a medical device or a replacement for occupational hygiene.
Questions to ask before purchase
- Is the shield removable without tools?
- Can a client hand enter from the opposite side?
- Are replacement filters available in the selected market?
- Are noise, motor and operating specifications clearly stated?
- Does the return policy allow you to resolve damage or defects?
